About Tonia

YOGA THERAPY

I became a yoga therapist because yoga saved me.

In my early 30s, I was drowning. My mother was seriously ill, I was struggling with postpartum depression, and I had quietly stopped believing things could get better. A neighbor — a yoga teacher — pulled me out of the house one Thursday evening and brought me to her gentle class at the local YMCA. I couldn't hold a warrior pose or press up to wheel. But I could follow her voice. I could breathe. And for the first time in a long time, that was enough.

That class didn't fix everything. But it gave me a thread to hold onto — and I've never let go.

What I discovered that evening wasn't about postures or flexibility. It was about showing up. About learning to listen to your body instead of fighting it. About finding moments of peace even in the middle of chaos. That is the yoga I practice, and it is the yoga I bring to every client I work with.

From the mat to the clinic

For over a decade I have brought yoga therapy into some of the most challenging clinical settings imaginable. Since 2017, I have worked as a Yoga Therapist at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia — one of the nation's leading pediatric hospitals — where I coordinate integrative oncology services across four clinical sites.

My patients include children and adolescents facing cancer diagnoses, chronic illness, and complex medical conditions. I also support their caregivers and families, because I know firsthand that illness doesn't just affect one person — it ripples through everyone who loves them.

My work at CHOP has been the greatest privilege of my professional life. It has also shaped me into a more skilled, more humble, and more compassionate clinician.

HEALTH COACHING

Meeting you where you are

Alongside my yoga therapy practice, I am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) — a credential that reflects advanced training in behavior change, motivational interviewing, and whole-person wellness. Health coaching allows me to support clients beyond the yoga mat, helping them identify goals, navigate obstacles, and build sustainable habits that support their overall wellbeing.

Whether you are managing a health condition, navigating a major life transition, or simply ready to feel more like yourself again — coaching offers a structured, supportive partnership to help you get there.

PHILOSOPHY

What I believe

I believe healing is not linear. I believe the body holds extraordinary wisdom when we learn to listen to it. I believe that choice — real choice, not a prescribed path — is essential to any meaningful healing process.

I don't bring a one-size-fits-all approach to this work. Some clients need vigorous movement; others need stillness. Some need to talk; others need silence. My job is to help you find what works for you — and then get out of your way.

I am a student of yoga and a student of life. My own practice continues to shift and evolve, and I bring that same openness to every person I work with.
